How Shuttlers Will Tackle Commuters’ Mobility Challenges With $1.6m Seed Funding

As a commuter, for every day you go through the rigors of boarding any of the popular mass transit options as you go about your daily grind in a buzzing city like Lagos, you are putting four (4) of your most valuable assets at risk; they are – your time, peace of mind, health, and family moments. For the longest time, commuters had no choice than to waste these assets away standing for hours on end at bus stops, sitting in rickety buses inhaling carbon monoxide in large quantities and getting into brawls with increasingly unruly drivers or conductors amongst many other unpleasant experiences. 

This narrative is what Shuttlers set out to change over 5 years ago by launching our bus-sharing service. We were concerned about the daily struggles of commuters and this service was launched to help them salvage their (aforementioned) most valuable assets. By booking shuttles via the Shuttlers app for Android and iOS, commuters who want to move with purpose get to share decent, air-conditioned bus rides with other responsible people who are going their way – usually working class people. Over the years, Shuttlers has evolved into a more technologically advanced mobility solution and has become the preferred mobility option for Lagos’ professional community. It is worthy of note that Shuttlers’ “no surge during peak periods or bad weather” pricing is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and Africa. These are some of Shuttlers’ achievements at a glance: 

– We’ve moved people aboard our buses over 5 million times combined

– We’ve plied 30 routes and counting 

– We’ve made stops at 300 bus stops and counting 

– We boast of a fleet of over 100 partner buses

It’s a new era for us at Shuttlers as we have now raised a $1.6m seed funding. This raise which was led by VestedWorld, with Interswitch, Rising Tide, Launch Africa, EchoVC, CMC 21 & Alsa, ShEquity, Five35, Consonance, CcHub Syndicate, Sakore, and Nikky Taurus also participating, is a major achievement not just for Shuttlers, but for the mobility industry in Africa. One of the more exciting parts of this round is that up to 50% of the investment was led by female investors and LPs. 

Now that we have raised this seed funding, what does this mean for commuters? 

Larger fleet with more top of the range vehicles to cover more routes 

Commuters’ requests for more routes will be addressed and become a reality in the coming weeks. We will be expanding our fleet of buses in order to accommodate more routes. This means more flexibility for our existing commuters to move smarter and more opportunities for others who haven’t already joined the Shuttlers train to come on board.

When you think Shuttlers, think multimodal commuting. We launched with a bus-sharing service, but the plan is to expand beyond this.
